Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, said Wednesday the PlayStation Vue service will be launching in Beta form within the next two weeks. The test will only be available in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia via invitation-only. Full service in the USA will launch by the end of the year.

Sony’s PlayStation Vue allows subscribers to watch “cable TV channels” without the inflated cost of cable or satellite service. The new service will have about 75 channels including CBS, NBC, FOX, FX, Comedy Central, and Discovery. And will work on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles. Sony plans to eventually offer the service on other devices – both Sony and other brands (assuming not Xbox). An iPad version of the service is rumored to be coming.  One notable omission in the channel line up is ESPN, but Vue does contain Fox Sports.

Sony has been working hard to broaden the appeal of it’s flag ship console extending the entertainment value in many areas. Recently Sony announced that the popular Spotify service will be available for music streaming.
