Controversial Comic “Preacher” Coming to AMC

The comic book Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher in a small Texas town who is possessed by an infant supernatural creature. And not just any supernatural creature but one that was the product of some strange fusion of pure good and evil. The comic book ran from 1995 to 2000 and during the course of that run Jesse roamed the USA meeting all types of people including serial killers, fallen angels, his creepy family…
AMC has decided to take this on with executive producer Seth Rogen. The series will arrive in 2016 (possibly May) for 10 episodes. It certainly will be interesting to see how far they will go with this. Preacher was in production with HBO for awhile but was eventually dropped because the network thought Preacher was “too dark and too violent and too controversial.” according to The Hollywood Reporter. So yeah it’s dark.
Jesse will be played by Dominic Cooper, you might know him as Howard Stark in Agent Carter. Ruth Negga (Raina from Agents of SHIELD) is Jesse’s ex-girlfriend Tulip. The two Marvel MCU actors recently finished filming Warcraft this summer, and will now ironically move on to a DC property. It’s all happening.

The original plot and premise of Preacher was spun out of Ennis’ run on Hellblazer, which postulated what would happen if an angel and a demon mated, and the spirit of their offspring ended up in a mortal man. Like many comics spun out of DC’s 1990s work, it incorporates the idea of the Jewish God (Jahve) as the main antagonist of the series, serving as the creator who has left his creation. – Wikipedia
