The Justice League Dark Film

The Justice League Dark film continues to gain momentum. Uproxx and the Latino Review both have new details on the DC comic based superhero film. My attention was peeked long ago when Guillermo del Toro (The Strain, Silent Hills) was attached as the director. He has now stepped aside but is still committed as a producer. He has apparently chosen to direct Pacific Rim 2. (Which is fantastic – I loved Pacific Rim.)

Focusing back on Justice League Dark, the lineup is rumored to include John (all the rage now) Constantine, Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, Deadman, the Spectre, and Zatanna. The original comic (2011) featured over a dozen characters to choose from including Frankenstein. The Latino Review says Cara Delevingne may reprise her role as Suicide Squad supervillain The Enchantress, and Madame Xanadu possibly played by Monica Bellucci may also appear. Somewhat notably absent from that list is villain Anton Arcane. Heroic Hollywood steps in to offer a rumor that Anton will appear and Ben Mendelsohn is the top choice to play Swamp Thing’s arch-nemesis.

Personally I think the rumors are pointing to a story something along the lines of the New 52 where Madame Xanadu gathers John Constantine, Deadman, Shade, and Zatanna  to defeat Enchantress after June Moon, her “good half” escapes her.
The Dark Universe (formally called Heaven Sent) story rumors center around John Constantine organizing a dark team to combat a madman out to destroy the world. Many fans seem to want DC crossovers, and this would certainly answer a few prayers and form a nice bridge connecting films and tv shows. Tracking Board says Justice League Dark has Warner Bros. full attention with production starting next year, certainly an escalation from this spring when JLD was more of a dark myth.
