Alita: Battle Angel Live Action Blockbuster

Cameron is finally making his Alita: Battle Angel film.
James Cameron is brining the popular science fiction manga story Alita: Battle Angel to live-action film. The ambitious screen adaptation of the graphic novel series is estimated to be in the $200 million (USD) budget range. For comparison Cameron’s 2009 block buster Avatar cost $237 million to create. So I think it is safe to say that this will be a major motion picture, and won’t shy away from the special effects that will be needed to tell this very futuristic sci-fi story.
About that story, it occurs in the 26th century where things have gone (once again) post-apocalyptic. There are the haves, and the have-nots. Lying in junk yard somewhere in the land of the have-nots called Scrapyard we find the robot Alita. Well actually cybermedic expert Daisuke Ido finds what is left of her. Alita has lost most of her body and is only a head and torso with no memory of what has occurred in her eventful previous life. But of course this is just the beginning of the story. The original printed version of the drama covered 9 volumes.
James Cameron is known to be a big fan of manga and has wanted to create a live-action film of Alita: Battle Angel for some time. Back in 2009 he told MTV news about future plans to someday bring Yukito Kishiro‘s story into a feature movie.
The film is scheduled to arrive summer of 2018 after Fox shifted several other dates including The Predator. Fox also announced Alita will be finished for iMax presentation too, so we can get our whole $200 million worth of speical effects. Principal photography starts next month with Christoph Waltz, Rosa Salazar cast as Dr. Dyson Ido, and Alita. Also recently announced is Deadpool bad guy Ed Skrein who will play a character named Zapan, a villainous cyborg who is in possession of a special weapon called the Damascus blade.
