Firewatch Movie In The Works
The Hollywood Reporter has disclosed that indie video game developer Campo Santo, has a deal to bring it’s first-person hit Firewatch to the big screen. The new deal with film production company Good Universe is to develop content for both feature films (yes plural) and video games. The Firewatch movie will be the first of their efforts according to the article.
Based on the almost 1 millions units sold in less than a year, there should be a solid audience for this story if, god help them, it is a video game movie done right. We won’t waste anymore time discussing the track record of these attempts. The mystery adventure game features the talents of The Walking Dead’s Cissy Jones and Mad Men’s Rich Sommer. No word if either one will take part in the feature film.
“When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories. It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together,” said Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman speaking about the Firewatch Movie.
Set in the Wyoming wilderness in 1989, a fire lookout named Henry uncovers clues in the Shoshone National Forest. Strange and unexplained occurrences are a foot, all the while a dark and shadowy figure keeps tabs on him from afar. Henry’s only means of communication with the outside, is a hand held walkie-talkie that he uses to talk to his supervisor, Delilah. In the game the player’s choices in his communication with Delilah will have lasting effects oh his relationship with her, effecting the games outcome.
