AC Will Have A New Feel

Ubisoft says the next Assassin’s Creed will feature a new and less scripted narrative, and allow for more opportunities for a “player to amuse themselves.” Speaking to Le Monde Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft, said Assassin’s Creed will be the first Ubisoft project to launch with this new paradigm. The current “free roam” world becomes more free allowing the player to “write his own story.”

So in essence Ubisoft will be creating and populating a fantasy world for you to visit, and do what you please – without the sex probably. You will pay to visit, don the appropriate garb, and then set about looking for adventure. It seems like the next Assassin’s Creed will be like HBO’s Westworld. The synthetic people who inhabit this world will have their storylines, and backstories. They will go about their “normal lives” not knowing they were only created for your entertainment. They interact with other synths the same way they will interact with you.

Of course this will all change when you arrive. As a visitor to their world you don’t have a vested interested in this place, you can leave at any time. You can choose to engage and mess with the “hosts” or move on. Black hat or white hat you can alter the world with impunity. Well actually you can die (virtually) in Assassin’s Creed.

We will have to see how much different this experience will actually be compared to previous iterations. Will this just be a free-roam 2.0 or Westworld 0.1 (still away to go, my Roomba barely makes it back to it’s dock..)

Rumors are the next Assassin’s Creed will be called “Empire,” and will be set in Ancient Egypt.
