Filming to start soon

It has been awhile since we talked about Marvel’s Runaways TV show. Since we first got word of it’s possible existence over a year ago there has been little to report. Well thankfully it hasn’t gone away, actually it is set to begin filming next month, along with another Marvel property Cloak & Dagger. The two comics have a little history together…

According to several sources Hulu’s Runaways will being be filming in LA, while Cloak and Dagger will take place in New Orleans and will  appear on Disney owned Freeform. Based on that timing we might be able to expect to see either of the two comic based shows appear late this year. However who will be starting in these shows, no word yet. Rumor has the budgets for these two productions could approach what was spent on Luke Cage and other Marvel / Netflix productions. Meaning these less well known comics might get a full production budget.

Similar to the fate of the Inhumans, Runaways was previously in-development as a full feature film before being redirect to the small screen. Drew Pearce a writer for Iron Man 3 had previous been attached to the Runaways movie.

Descriptions of the two shows are below.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger follows Tandy Bowen and Tyronne Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly acquired super powers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn that they are better together than apart–but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging. – via Disney

Runaways created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona follows a group of teenagers who accidentally discover their parents are supervillains, and members of The Pride. Aided by their inherited powers, and leaving their homes behind the kids attempt to disrupt and dismantle the workings of The Pride.
