Death Note Live Action Movie
Netflix is bringing the popular supernatural Japanese manga series to the masses, Death Note live action movie is on the way. The 12 volume series first published analog by Shōnen Jump appeared in 2003, but has since expanded into everything from tv, to video games, and even into a Death Note musical.
Dark and murderous, the decidedly English version will take place in Seattle. But will still tell the story of a black notebook you really don’t want your name in. Because that ain’t good. You see Death Note is the name of a book that has fallen, well actually it was tossed, to earth by the dark creature Ryuk. After it’s arrival it is soon found by a high school student named Light. Now the charismatic keeper of death, he wastes no time in reading the instructions (yes it has instructions), and experimenting with his new powers. This intern attracts a very interesting circle of people to his side as the event unfold. The suspense story is a struggle of morality – who lives, who dies, and who makes that choice.
Selling some 30 million copies of Death Note, people seem to love the dark yet cavalier tale that includes fashion models. But because of it provocative topic and how it is told, it has been banned, and attempted to be banned in several places.
Casting the Death Note Live action movie
Netflix will bring the sci-fi story to life with Nat Wolff playing Light, and Willem Dafoe as the perfect choice to play Shinigami (death spirit) Ryuk. While Dafoe might be a lock, the other casting choice has been more controversial with some people going so far as to claim whitewashing. The original cast was of course Japanese, but few of the current cast can describe themselves as such. Paul Nakauchi aka in Overwatch as Hanzo Shimadawho, will play Watari. Beautiful Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) will play the famous model and femme fatale to Light – Misa Amane.
Death Note directed by Adam Wingardis (Blair Witch) is scheduled for an August 25, 2017 release on Netflix.
