Meat Shield the Gears of War movie

The Gears of War live-action movie now has a screenwriter and is starting to heat up, increasing the chances we might see one of Microsoft’s biggest IPs come to life. The third person shooter has been played by over 45 million gamers so far. According to Dateline, Universal Pictures has recently tapped Shane Salerno to write the screenplay for Gears. As we mentioned earlier Mr. Salerno is current involved in the four sequels to Avatar for director James Cameron. So with all his free time he’s jamming a away on this videogame to movie translation.

Which Gears story?

Universal acquired the rights to Gears of Wars last October. At the time, Rod Fergusson, head of the video game developer The Coalition, said the film would not be based on an existing story arc. Which is sort of a scary thing to hear if you are a fan of the game. He did say the story would be set in the same universe and would take place on the planet Sera. This leaves the cast of characters open, including the monsters they will encounter.

“As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie,” Fergusson told Variety. “We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.”

This is the second revitalization of the Gears of War movie in recent history. There was an attempt in 2012 with Scott Stuber (Battleship and Ted) producing, however the project was later paused. The Gears of war live action movie has no release date. Gears of War 4 was released in October 2016 and is published by Microsoft Studios for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. It is the fourth installment in the Gears of War series.
